2025 Updates
January:
We grew again - please welcome Lucas and Yuri to the crew! For the goatscaping side of the house, we adopted two full-blooded nubian boys. They will add to Auris’s reach of higher limbs and this guides us into our succession plan and Auris’ retirement. Anyone else enjoy those freezing single-digit temperatures? No - neither did we. Everyone got a heat lamp, and the goats got locked into their barn to prevent freezing at night. Oh, the days of the hot heat need to come sooner rather than later.
February:
Preparation Month - goat babies & gardens! I am beyond excited to meet the new little ones, we are still two months off, but boy have I over-prepared my goat kidding bag. I have all the necessary people on speed dial and they are made aware they are my “holy smokes this is happening!” call. Nala, Jenny, and Snickers are acting a bit more loving towards me and really have enjoyed their extra attention at night. Goat stall cameras have been installed and are ready to be put to work. I will be sharing footage if appropriate for the world wide web. I will be looking for labor signs starting April 1st.
March:
The warmer weather has both us and our goats buzzing with energy, as the grass begins to grow and the season comes alive. Lucas and Yuri, the newest additions to our goat family, have truly found their stride, bonding with the herd and settling in beautifully. On the goat care front, spring brought its fair share of responsibilities. All of the goats received thorough hoof trims and health check-ups, and those needing updated vaccinations were taken care of. Keeping the herd healthy and happy is always a top priority! Meanwhile, we expanded our feathered family by adding more chicks to the flock. They've successfully transitioned to the coop (thankfully out of the house) and are now mingling with their feathered companions. To make room for our growing flock, we gave the chicken coop a makeover with additional roosting bars and nesting boxes—a small upgrade that makes a big difference for our feathered friends! On the gardening front, the season's first seeds have been planted and are already sprouting thanks to the warm spell we've been enjoying. Each new green shoot is a promise of what's to come. And speaking of preparations, our brand-new deer fence is up and ready to protect our summer harvests.
April:
Kicking off "baby watch"—our most anticipated time of year. Jenny and Snickers are expecting, and we're keeping a close eye on them for signs of impending delivery. The joy and suspense are palpable as we prepare for the arrival of these precious new lives.
Mid-April Update!
BABY WATCH HAS BEEN COMPLETED! Snickers had two boys on April 9th and Jenny had two boys on April 10th. Mommas and babies are doing so well.
April Closeout:
Early in the month, we welcomed four lively baby boys—Walter and Grant from Snickers, and Jackson and Ernest from Jenny. They’ve been growing fast, already thriving outdoors, playing, and making new friends with the older goats. Watching them explore and bond has been pure joy!
April also marked the preparation of our goat-grazing season, as our hardworking herd has been gearing up to head out to help manage pastures and landscapes. Practice, practice, practice! We worked on training with the electric fencing, ensuring trailer loading went smoothly, and—of course—fine-tuning our trailer driving skills. All the practice will set us up for a successful grazing season ahead.
And in the spirit of fresh beginnings, our farm trailer got a much-needed upgrade—a new coat of paint, a revamped wiring harness, and updated flooring. It’s looking better than ever and ready for the busy season ahead!
With May now here, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
May:
As the warm days roll in, the farm is buzzing with excitement, new additions, and the steady rhythm of summer preparations.
Our latest rescue kitties, Pepper and Violet, have officially claimed their spots as household royalty. After recovering from their spay, they’ve embraced their new domain with ease, lounging in comfort while slowly warming up to the idea of venturing outdoors. Meanwhile, Tanya Tucker—TT for short—has brought a fresh wave of joy to the household with her four adorable kittens.
Around the farm, it’s been all hands-on deck getting ready to beat the summer heat. The barn received some much-needed upgrades, with new lights and fans ensuring the herd stays cool and comfortable. Speaking of the herd, we’ve welcomed two new registered girls, Cossette and Gemma (formerly Goldberry), to balance out the boy-heavy spring arrivals. They’ve fit right in, adjusting quickly and keeping pace with our newborn boys.
The goats have been busy too—we successfully completed our first grazing job of the season! They were absolute rockstars, handling their work with enthusiasm while thoroughly enjoying their temporary home away from home. It’s always rewarding to see them thriving while doing what they do best.
The chickens, ever the independent workers, are carrying on as they always do—quietly tending to their duties. Meanwhile, the garden has officially kicked off its summer growth spurt. With all the seeds planted, tiny sprouts are breaking through, promising a vibrant season ahead.
Of course, no farm update is complete without a nod to our ever-present, slithering neighbors. The local snakes have made their seasonal appearance, and while they serve an important role in the ecosystem, those who wander too close to the house get a firm reprimand and a respectful relocation to the wood line.
Farm life remains steady yet ever-changing, full of growth, surprises, and the reassuring cycles of nature. As summer unfolds, we look forward to watching the land flourish and the animals thrive.
